Our work load and schedule varies depending on time of year and events. Below is a general summary of how we approach our work.
During the School Year:
Custodian Staff - The day shift staff is involved in support of normal school activities, maintenance and general cleaning. The night shift does a complete cleaning of classrooms and restrooms, etc. They also provide support to the evening events as needed.
Maintenance - The staff performs preventative maintenance (PM) and repairs. Also, they are involved in many projects that upgrade and improve the school environment. We have over 8,000 pieces of equipment and parts that we maintain. We also have nearly 800 PMs that we perform on a regular basis. We also take care of the grounds such as the trails, ball field, landscaping, mowing and snow removal in winter.
Maintenance Secretary - The secretary's job is to help keep things running smoothly. She makes sure all the staffing positions are filled by calling approved substitutes to fill in. She makes numerous calls to schedule contractors and order parts. She also keeps up with lots of typing and data entry and lots of other tasks.
In Service Days and No School Days:
Custodial Staff - The staff will take special requests on these days and address needs such as preventative maintenance and painting.
Maintenance - We perform preventative maintenance (PM) and repairs which are difficult to complete during the normal school day. An example of this would be repairing a leak that requires the water to be turned off.
Summer:
Custodian Staff - The staff does a complete cleaning of both school buildings from the top down. All rooms are completely cleared out, cleaned and the floors are waxed.
Maintenance - We perform preventative maintenance (PM) and repairs that can only be done in the summer while there are no students in the building. It is necessary for some repairs to wait until students and staff are on break for the summer. We also take on special projects to upgrade and improve the buildings and grounds.
Sporting and Special Events (not during regular school days):
Custodian Staff - The staff works overtime to accommodate the needs of the school and community during special events on weekends and holidays. They do a great job keeping up with the needs that arise from these activities!
Emergencies:
Maintenance - The maintenance staff is on call 24/7 for emergencies. The buildings are equipped and wired with a monitoring system that will call if certain problems arise after hours. We use software to gain remote access to evaluate the problems, we come to the school to repair as needed no matter what the hour, day or night. The problem usually includes heat system failure or malfunction problems, kitchen coolers and freezer problems, power outages, severe weather damage, etc.
